Everyone got a little giddy over John Kerry's accepted idea of having Assad turn over all his chemical weapons to the international community. It really was simple, out of left field, and inadvertently brilliant, even if it completely kills the momentum needed for U.S. military intervention in Syria. But that still doesn't solve the problem of Assad bombing the crap out of his citizens. I get it that he finds himself fighting groups supported and manned by Al Qaeda at this point, a situation he created in the first place, so unseating his entire government may be ill-advised, but the killing has to stop.

Assad still needs to take an early South American retirement, and the slaughter of innocent civilians needs to stop NOW. So let's hear some brilliant ideas for accomplishing that. I think the option of using our military to strike Syria's military bases needs to remain on the table, and we should be moving forward with it. Don't hit civilian or government targets -- take out the military. The offered alternative is that Assad steps down and accepts exile to another country, with guaranteed protection in making the transition. It needs to happen soon, it needs to happen quickly, and the a new government must be installed in Syria.
