Todd's Views: Abortion

I'm going to throw out two opinions here. One is going to be a familiar one to those who have ever heard the abortion arguments (pretty much anyone that hasn't spent their time in a small box with holes punched in it for air), and one opinion that you probably don't hear, and which will probably earn me a bit of grief.

First, I'm pro-choice and I'm also anti-abortion. Yup, that's right, I'm both. I don't like the idea of abortion. Nothing can ever convince me that it's a good thing. At the same time, I think it's best if I just stay out of it. It would not be my body or my life that would be at stake in the event of an unplanned pregnancy. Let the women decide for themselves whether it should be illegal. There's plenty of women on both sides of that conflict that a guy can stay completely out of the way and let the women duke it out...

Second, deep down in my heart of hearts, I think a man SHOULD be able to say what happens to his baby. I'll expound on this more later -- it's midnight here and I'm pooped -- but women put far too little weight on how a man might feel about his baby being aborted. I just think the man should be able to petition and say that he wants the child, that he wants to raise it, to love it, to care for it, and if the woman doesn't want to be a part of that, so be it, but don't kill the child!
