A 2003 Focus's "strange steering" nearly killed us.

Has anyone else out there had a problem with steering on a 2003 Focus?  The 
best way I can describe it is that this car "jumped" or jerked.  From the 
get-go I said that the steering was fubar and that I would never trust its steering 
on a wet road.

Finally, the car hydroplaned after "jumping" on the interstate.  We sailed 
into the side of a semi truck.  I don't know how we survived this, but no one 
was hurt.

Meanwhile, I have no answers as to why this vehicle's steering behaved as it 
did.  NEVER in my 30-plus years of driving have I ever driven a car that I 
knew I could not control because of its steering pecularities.  

By the way--I don't have the Focus any longer.  I hope never to ride in one 
again.
