Todd,

I am a very unsatisfied Ford customer. I purchased my 1997 Ford Escort last
October. Since, my life has turned sour just like the car I bought. On June
21, 1998, I was driving down the highway, when I smelt something burning. I
decided to pull over and check under the hood. I inspected under the hood and
did not see anything. I got in the passenger side of the car to see if I
could figure out where the smell was coming from. About 30 seconds later both
airbags deployed. I had the car towed to the dealership on June 24, 1998.
>From that day, Ford took roughly 60 days to do anything about my situation.
The dealership had told me that because I had a broken nose and other
injuries, it was now a legal issue and it would be handled by the Office of
Indepenent Council(Ford's Legal Department), JOKE. From what the local
dealership thought was that Ford would end up doing a voluntary buy back on my
vehicle. I waited to hear from them for months and on August 24 1997, Ford's
attorney (Robert Grant), told me I was just one in 1,000 cases on his desk
with people who had been injurred or killed in a Ford vehicle, and I was a
person that had my hand out for money. He told me he was only willing to fix
the car and give it back to me. I will never drive in that car again. If I
hadn't pulled over I probably would have crashed at 70 mph. Ford did send a
field engineer to inspect the vehicle, his findings were that the air-
conditioning duct was not working, therefore, water was leaking in the
electrical parts of the car, which caused the airbag module to melt. This car
is unsafe and I'm sure I'm not the only person this happened to. The attorney
also told me he had searched the complaints and I am the only one in the
country that this happened to. Ford has not been very cooperative, so I
applied for the New York State Lemon Law. I am more than likely to get a
refund for my car. I am not finished there. I have had my car on my front
lawn with lemons, and signs informing all of the people of what happened to
me.. Maybe you can help me. If you can please let me know. We can share our
stories about our Ford vehicles.

Thank You!!!!!!

BJA
