2000 Expedition Moonroof

Earlier this year, I opened the moonroof of my 2000 Expedition EB (61K
miles) and it refused to close. Took the car to Ford of Dublin in
Dublin, CA and have been told the following:
1. the switch and the motor are both bad. My response: highly improbable
that both went bad simultaneously. Keep trying
2. Next diagnosis is the switch is ok but the motor is bad. Cost to
repair: $1500. I tell them no thanks, just pull the window closed and
disconnect. How much for that? $1200 because the headliner must be
removed. But how was the motor diagnosed as bad if the headliner were
not removed?
3. After 2 days of hearing nothing from Ford I call them to find out
what is going on. They can't get the window closed. Reason: track is
bent. That must be the problem then right? No can do, track comes with
the motor so everything must be replaced. My response: you were going to
sell me a motor without a track, but you cannot sell a track without the
motor. How is that possible?
4. New answer from Ford, when the motor seized it must have bent the
track. Happens all the time. Cost to repair now is $2200. And the window
is wedged in the track so that it cannot be moved so I have no other
option but to have it replaced, or I can continue to drive it around
with the top open.
So I will have to spend $2200 to repair a car worth maybe $10K. So one
of 2 things must be true: Either (1) I have been royally shafted by a
completely dishonest car dealer or (2) the Expedition moonroof design is
an engineering blunder of absolute galactic proportions. No easy access
to the motor, no manual override. I have a feeling it is a combination
of the two. Regardless Ford has had my truck now for 6 working days (and
a weekend) and it is still not ready. They need 2 more days. I will
never, ever buy another Ford.
