Subject: 2003 Ford Expedition Electrical and Molding
Problems.

I currently own a 2003 Ford Expedition that has an
electrical problem with its signals and fading side
moldings. While under the original warranty, the
driver side window gave me problems and the local
dealer changed the motor and the window. After the
window repair my signals didn’t work. They changed
the fuse and I was back at the dealer a couple times
to get the fuse changed. I didn't attempt to change
it on my own since I didn't want to have them say it
was something I did. I'm glad I did that.

By the second time this occurred I was on the extended
warranty. I THANK GOD I HAD IT! When buying a Ford
you obviously need it! I made an appointment and had
them perform a diagnostic test. They couldn't
duplicate the problem so I get in my car and guess
what? THEY STILL DIDN'T WORK!

They had my car once again and after a few weeks they
didn't make progress so I gave them a few days to deal
with my car or I was picking it up. I picked it up
and took it to another dealer. I was told by the
other dealer they wouldn't touch my car under the
warranty and I would personally be responsible for the
costs since they couldn't guarantee the work of the
first dealer and when they took a look at it there
were a few wires that were not "connected" properly by
the first dealer. I was charged $190 for this advice.
I had to go back to the first dealer since I had no
choice. Upon taking my car I called the Ford Company
for help. They helped the progress of getting my car
worked on.

In the end they kept my car for an additional two
weeks, changed the main electrical wiring harness. It
was scary to see my entire car inside taken out. This
occurred in November of 2006. By January, February
and March of 2007, the fuse was going out once again.
BUT this time it doesn't go out when I start the
car-it goes out in the middle of traffic. In April
2007 I called the Ford Company and asked about my
signal problem and I was told the dealer had to
warranty the work for 12,000 miles she suggested I
take it back. If I took it to another dealer I would
be responsible for the cost of the repair. The day I
made an appointment the signals gave out once again.
The next day I took the car back EMPTY. I even took
out my license plate. I have made it very clear to
the local dealer and Ford Company they either fix it
for good or they buy this car back from me and I am
not going to take a loss on the car. I have looked at
the Lemon Laws in New Mexico, and under these laws my
vehicle would qualify as a lemon. I passed this
information onto the dealer, because it is not in safe
working order. Not having signals is the same as not
having breaks.

I should also mention that during the month long
repair I made a huge deal and I got a car payment, ALL
car rental costs and the $190 from the dealer
reimbursed. This was with the help of Ford Customer
Care. This time I have made it very clear that I WILL
NOT incur any costs on a car rental.

I will never ever buy another Ford. AND my side
moldings are faded as well. I inquired on this during
the original warranty and they had never seen it and I
asked them to check with Ford about it. They were no
help. After doing my own research I have seen many
complaints. If I do keep my car-I will push for the
side moldings to get replaced, but if the dealer keeps
the car then it is their problem. My other advice-use
Ford Customer Care and bug them to help you! Document
every call you make.
