In December 2004 I purchased a used Ford Ranger EDGE with 13,000 some miles
on the odometer........great deal on a low mileage truck, so I snapped it
up. IN January I was driving around the local mall here in WInchester, VA
where I work when the thing just stalled out on me, kinda like a manual stalling
out when you miss a gear, but this thing is an automatic for lords sake. So I take
it back to WInchester Ford and they say its a computer program issue so they
reprogram it and I figure everything is ok. Not even a month later im in a parking
lot and it stalls out once again, this time the service department at Ford says "wow,
no ones ever changed the oil or oil filter in this truck, shucks thats whats causing
the problem". Funny that WInchester Ford never hit this in their 14 point used car
inspection they harp about, must not include the oil in that one. Anyways this
rigamarole kept going, we kept taking it back every month on the month. Same
problem just would stall out, and you couldnt get it to restart for 5 to 15 minutes.
Weather didnt matter, running or stopped didnt matter. Happened at two stop lights
in town once in the rain when I was going to get my medication for a cervical neck
strain, that was fun. SO finally just a few weeks ago, early July my sister had
borrowed the truck to go to work and it quit on her, this time there was no
restarting and it was taken on a rollback to Winchester Ford. What was the
excuse du jour? Fuel pump problem they say, so they put a new fuel pump in it and
guess what, I pick it up and no more than 4 hours, yes 4 hours later im turning onto
a local road and she stalls out once again.......we now go back to Winchester
Ford for I believe we are now up to the 8th time. THis time their typically rude
staff takes it out for three days deems it perfectly fine and tells me to pick it up,
my father drives me home as I have decided he can run it, cause Ill just be
running his Hyundai Santa Fe which has become my defacto ride since the
problems started. We turn onto my home street and she cuts out again, this just
today(July 28,2005), he calls them and the guy says well shucks must be a bad
idler, yes thats his words apparently. SO the odyssey continues with the evil red
2003 Ford Ranger EDGE, and whats been the most fun part of this, Ford tries to
trade me into a 2005 Focus(yeah big difference isnt it)and says hey we can keep
this at your current pay schedule(312.81 a month for those interested)you only
have to put 2000 down on this thing........more money for their problem, yes folks,
they want me to come up with 2000 to step down to a small car that I wouldnt
need if they had sold me a working truck to begin with. I was a big Ford guy
growing up, this has ruined me forever for the Ford Motor Company.
