Obama won.
That's up there with "Jesus wept" as the two words that generate the strongest emotions ever. Obama won by a large margin. McCain did a horrible job of running his campaign. He did a spectacularly bad job of picking a running mate and ended up embarrassing himself every time he tried to portray Obama in a negative light. He couldn't win on the issues, because his positions were rehashed Bush policies. The GOP got stomped in every area.
And two months before he's officially sworn in, Obama is already doing the job that Bush has refused to do for eight long, painful, shameful years. He's doing it intelligently and realistically. He's picking the very best of the best for his cabinet, regardless of party affiliation. He's laying out plans for economic recovery now, and he's not blowing sunshine up the media's skirts by throwing out fantastic and improbable numbers. It's shaping up as even measures of the revenge of Bill Clinton and shades of Abraham Lincoln. Already, Obama is looking like he could very well go down in history as one of the top three the best presidents ever.
I'm proud that the country did the right thing. I'm proud of the Democrats for beating the GOP so badly that no amount of cheating by the GOP could stop them. I'm proud that Obama, my choice for President, has assumed the duties of the office in fine form even before the actual responsibilities and powers of the mantle have been formally bestowed upon him.
I have a long grocery list of things that I hope Obama takes care of, but one of them I still never hear mentioned is fixing the Constitution so that a fascist regime like George Bush's can never occur again.
