On July 8, 2005, at 4:58am, I was notified by a nurse that a car was on
fire outside in the parking lot. At the time, my mother (88) was a
hospice patient at Mercy Medical. When I went outside to see what was
happening, I viewed my car engulfed in flames. Several police cars and
soon a fire truck were at the scene. The police were going to evacuate
the front of the hospital, but were informed that the front hall
consisted of sitting rooms not patient rooms. The fire investigator
told me that the wiring on the passengers side under the dash board is
where the fire started.
My car had been parked in the same spot for over sixteen hours. My
mother died two hours later. I was dealing with a lot. All of my
clothing, shoes, lap top, books, etc. were in my car. The lady's car
parked next to me had the passenger's side of her car melted because of
this explosion.
Her husband was in the hospital as a hospice patient, and she was
planning that afternoon to pick up her brother from the veterian's
hospital in Biloxi. My insurance was great, but I don't think I
should have to pay 1,000 deductible to get my personal belongings back.
Things could have been worse. I could have been home, parked in my
garage. My son's bedroom is above the garage, the house could have
burned down, myself, husband or one of my children could have been
driving it. My car looks like it was used in an Irac bombing. It makes
me sick to think of what could have happened. When I contacted Ford
they told me to get in contact with my insurance. I did, but I'm
contacting a lawyer too!
