Subject:
Ford '02' Explorer Limited

I have been a Ford lover for many years, and want to continue to be,
but, I write to see if any others have had a similar problem.

First, I just purchased an '02' Explorer Limited, with 34,000 miles
on the odometer. The vehicle is black, and very nice to look at when
clean. I have discovered the following problems, and have a few days
left of my 30 day used car warranty - vehicle was not purchased from
a Ford dealer - I'm not certain what the warranty will be good for.

Wanting to get a good coating of wax on the car prior to an Ohio winter,
I prepared to wax the top of it, and found a couple of splits in the
paint, exposing bare metal. Also, some signs of crazing, which looked
like the previews of additional splits. When the rest of the car looks
like new, who would look at the top of the car ?

Taking the car to a paint shop I have used with good fortune, I was told
that this was definitely a factory defect, caused by too much factory
paint - thickness was 12 to 14 mill.

My next stop is to the local Ford dealer to try to get a factory rep to
look at it.

Second, I was still in the cleaning mode, and noticed some spots on my
garage floor. Checked underneath and have found that the differential
is leaking on the RH side. Have been on the internet (google - 02 Ford
Explorer problems) and have a 9 page print out of horror stories relating
to Ford differential and transmission problems. One reason that I
purchased
this vehicle was for the proven drive train.

Again, I will have the same dealer check, and see if Ford will help.

Problem, even though the car only has 34,000 miles, it was purchased new
in March 01.

What the heck ?

What should I do ?

Thank you in advance for your response.
