Hey Todd,

I own an 88 1/2 Ford Escort GT... And believe me, they didn't get better as
they got older.

It shares about 90% of the same componentry that yours has, with a more
rounded body style... It's been through 4 headlight switches, three turn
signal switches, an emmissions recall (I believe it was EGR valve related
as well), and various other problems.  There's obvious problems with the
engine control systems:  some days it runs great, other days it dies at
idle.  

I also read in Consumer Reports that this model year and make of Escort was
given their lowest rating in all areas...  Considering that mine has 117k
miles on it, I feel lucky indeed.
