I wrote to you about my Ranger that had the same problem as Pete's
Uncontrolled acceleration at low speed in forward and reverse.
I just wanted to pass along that I have solved this one.
It is the Mass Air Flow sensor ( ford doesn't believe it) by the air  cleaner.
When I replaced it the problem stopped.
The truck also has better pickup from a standing start.
This problem never threw a code or had the check engine light come  on.
A tech at justansewar.com came up with the Idea and it worked.
Please pass this one on so that folks won't get hurt.
