No on Knight

I mentioned in last month's OOTM that my house is surrounded with "Yes on 22 - Save Marriage" posters in all my neighbors' yards. Well, I'm not going to post a sign on my lawn -- I'm new to the neighborhood and I'd like to remain friends with these people to some extent -- but this forum is for the expression of my opinions, and here's mine: Prop 22 is the mixing of Church and State. It's the government messing in the private lives of it's citizens. It's the violation of human rights based on religious beliefs. And I've uncovered a web site that sums up arguments from those whose human rights would be trampled. I recommend anyone on either side of the fence on this issue to check this site out:

It's a must read. I will be voting No on Prop 22 because it's as wrong as any intolerance of lifestyles that do not harm others.

Borland In Flames

(WARNING: For nerds...) Well, it was obviously coming. I was telling a good friend the other day that I thought that Inprise (formerly Borland International) was moving towards Linux and would slowly phase out dedicated support of Windows and focus on the Linus operating system. That seems to be the direction all the Microsoft victims are moving in. I really think Linux is building an incredible critical mass. Give it something friendlier than X-Windows as the GUI and you'll have a rising star on the desktop as well as the backend. But I digress...

Today news came out that Corel was buying Inprise/Borland for $4.5 billion, installing the sell-out chairman of I/B as their chairman, centering the acquired products and teams in the Linux arena. Nothing has ever sounded the death-knell for my beloved Borland more than this. Corel is second only to Novell for killing off good products, and if the sell-out chairman continues to govern I/B the way he has in the past, I see nothing but a spiralling, painful death for the fantastic products that came from Scotts Valley over the years.

On the flip side, Delphi and C++ Builder could become the tour de force for cross over development environment for Windows and Linux. Who knows? If Corel plays it right for once, they could have a serious shining star... I doubt it though...

Stay tuned for more...
