Oh, the next four years are going to be so EASY when it comes to
things to complain about...
Bush succeeded in blackmailing Congress into passing
legislation that allows for drilling in our Alaskan
park reserves in return for the money he cut off from
renewable energy programs. Congradulations, MFFB, you did it,
you kept those promises to your Big Oil buddies. Shoot, this
alone could get you re-elected. And that's what it's really
all about, isn't it? Screw our kids, screw their future, and
screw the ecological balance.
And just so you don't think I'm blowing smoke here, a
recent study shows that damage done to the Alaskan tundra
during the big Alaskan Pipeline project back in the 70's
is still visible today. The tundra doesn't heal easily, the
animal populations avoid the huge processing plants,
and their migration paths and mating grounds are permanently
disrupted.
And it gets better: the Bush administration had a U.S. Geological Survey
cartographer, Ian Thomas, fired for posting a map on the WWW that
shows that proposed drilling sites lie directly in the middle of
caribou calving grounds in the Alaska National Wildlife Refuge.
Now there's a little cover up for you. An excellent write up can
be found
at http://tbtf.com/unblinking/arc/2001-03a.htm.
In fact, they didn't just fire him, they erased him, removing
the maps he put up and removing his name from various maps available
online. What's the matter, Georgie? Did he tell on you?!
Poor baby...
If George W. Bush was any kind of real man, he would formally and publicly
request that Ian Thomas be fully reinstated and rewarded for protecting our
country's interest in ecological conservation. But then, for that
exact reason, don't expect it to happen.... Besides, you can't expect
much from a (cough) man who, when he sees a caribou, his first thought is,
"Hey, new hat rack... hand me my rifle, Charlton!"
But let's not stop there: Bush backed away from campaign promises
to put through legislation to force power plants to cut way back
on carbon dioxide emissions. He sited an "energy crisis" and
rising energy prices. But again, rather than pumping money into
new methods of generating energy, he'd rather cut restrictions
on existing power plants using coal and similar fuels that
spew tons of green house gases.
It's time this institution went away. Write me if you're interested in starting a movement to pass an amendment that places the power back with the people and the popular vote. Let's begin straightening out the political machine by clean up the voting process. |
Chinese hackers are vandalizing U.S. web sites in protest over the handling of the collision between our spy plane and their jet fighter that resulted in the loss of the jet fighter pilot. I say, "Grow up." Our planes have been observing China from their coast for decades. Their planes have done the same to us, and their spies have infiltrated every government institution for the same length of time. Whoop-T-do. Get over it. Here's an idea: don't instruct your jet fighters to do stupid stunts around our planes, and no one will get hurt in the future! Wow, that was a tough answer to come up with, huh? So Darryl is back in rehab and the baseball commission is pretending that somehow it will work this time. I honestly believe that professional athletes should be held to a higher standard. No matter how good a guy plays, I don't want my kid idolizing him if he can't keep his nose clean and act like an upstanding citizen. Darryl should lose his job and any chance to be in the hall of fame. It would send a message to other athletes that find themselves torn between being heroes and being zeroes. Kudos to the producers of "Ally McBeal" for giving RD the boot. What a freakin' loser. Exactly how many chances should a person be given before they are made to suffer the established and well known consequences of his actions? And how good does life have to get before you think to yourself, "Ok, I'm truly one of the lucky ones.... I should try not to screw this up..." Ally should have given him the boot a long time ago. Now it's the judge's turn to make sure he gets what he so richly reserves and what any of us common folks would have gotten the first time: a healthy prison sentence. Quote of the month: "Charlton Heston didn't write the 2nd amendment, he just acts like he did." |
