Subject: Ford Expeditions Suck More!
Date: 12/23/2004

I have a well maintained 1998 Expedition. On November 29, 2004
at 4 AM, my family and I were on our way to Kennedy Airport in
New York for a long awaited vacation. I was traveling about 40 mph
when all of a sudden I hear a loud thump (we thought we ran over
something very large) which was followed by a continuous popping
sound and a very bad idle. We turned around headed home (praying
all of the way that the engine wouldn’t blow up). We unloaded all
the suitcases and hoping into another car and made it to the airport
with only minutes to spare.

I contacted our mechanic who had it towed to his shop. He realized
what the problem was but he didn’t want to fix it because he knew it
was a Ford design problem. He printed article after article from the
web to give me when I returned so we could give it the Mahwah Ford
dealership. It seems this is a common problem with Expeditions and
especially those built in 1998 (my year). They said it was very rare
and we had the following options: 1) repair the on cylinder for $700,
2) repair the head for $6,500, or 3) have a new $7,000 engine put
into the car. The dealer mechanic recommended #3 since this could
happen again (although this is a very rare event!!!! RIGHT).

We have chosen option #1 so we can just sell this piece of garbarge.
We tried buying American and this is what we get; a company that can’t
build cars and then won’t stand behind them. Ford buyers beware.
Ford SUCKS!!!
