Todd's Views: Prostitution

Prostitution:

Legalize it. If it's legal, there's no need for pimps or their "protection" racket.

Regulate it.

  • Prostitutes and brothels must acquire and display licenses.
  • Prostitutes are required to get weekly exams and use condoms.
  • Prostitutes are required to receive training on all STDs, their symptoms and prevention. Refresher classes must be attended every 3 months.
  • No brothel is allowed anywhere a porn theater isn't allowed.
  • Brothels must provide safe, clean working conditions and must post warnings about STDs in all public areas.

Tax it. Revenue generated would fund the classes prostitutes, would be required to attend, it would fund police units required to uphold regulations, and it would fund pensions for the prostitutes.

Get over it. It's been around a long time. It's going to be around for a long time. Legalizing it did not drive all the young females in Nevada to seek it out as a career choice. For some women it's a valid, acceptable way to make a living. Are there victims? Sure, where it's not legal. It happens anyway and if it's not legalized, there are no protections for the prostitutes. What I submit for the web audience's approval is a means of providing protections for a segment of society that will always exist, prostitutes and their customers, and a means of tapping into the revenue stream via taxation.
