2001 Ford Taurus - Trim problems

I have a 2001 Ford Taurus. Several months ago, the leather panel on the
back passenger door started coming "unglued" from the door. It happened
gradually but now the whole piece is just hanging there. It's just a
piece of leather measuring about 7 inches wide by 13 inches long. I called
Ford and they said it would cost me $600 - $700 to replace the panel. I
explained that it wasn't torn it just wasn't sticking to the door anymore.
He said he understood that it was pretty costly and gave me the name of a
non Ford auto body shop that may be able to give me a better deal. When I
contacted that place and described the problem, they asked me what year the
car was. When I said, it was a 2001, the guy said, "Oh yeah...they had
lots of problems with the fabric coming off the doors". He said they
would charge me $145 for each door panel. He also said they would have to
replace the panel and could not "reuse" the leather that was there even
though it has no damage to it (not torn). To make matters, worse, the
leather is starting to come off the other backseat door now!!! 2 doors
down and 2 to go. I think it's ridiculous to have to spend hundreds of
dollar for something that is obviously a defect!
