1998 Expedition Eddie Bauer 5.4L engine with 65,600 miles. I was driving from
San Diego into Arizona and was pulled over by the Highway Patrol for a broken
license plate light. The engine was idling during the stop and as I went to
leave I heard a popping sound coming from the engine. The officer and I thought
it was some type of smog device that was broken. This happened to be the coil
that sits on the spark plugs that we saw flapping around.
It wasn't until I drove to the dealer that it was identified that the spark
plug blew out of the head. These plugs were original and were not due to be
changed until 100,000 miles per Ford's recommendation. I have the extended
warrenty "Platinum" through Toyota. This was the extended warrenty Ford sold
during the purchase of the vehicle. The warrenty plan refuses to cover this
because the Service Tech told them the threads were stripped and this was the
cause of the head failure. These plugs are the original plugs that were put in
by the manufacture. Why spend $1,800 for an extended warrenty when they will
NOT cover manufacturer defects? No wonder people resort to lying and cheating
in order to get things covered with insurance companies, they don't seem to
want to pay on legitimate claims.
I had to pay for a hotel, rental car, and a flight back to San Diego. I have
missed 3 days of work so far, only to be told my "Top of the line" extended
warranty will not cover my claim.
